Modest Mouse has a knack for writing singles that are like auditory crack for me. I feel compelled to listen to them over and over and over and….
I like the guitar sound in this song, I feel like I can hear each pluck. I also love the vocals in this song, its a combination of singing and almost chanting. It would be a great song to sing with your friends when you’re drinking. I also enjoy this kind of song when I am in the car because it is perfect for singing along.
I am not sure if the drums are actually a drum machine but I like how what I believe is the snare has a lot of chain or tin sound to it.I think it is the snare because snare drums have a chain like device called a snare. It could be I am hearing a more complex cymbal.
The lyrics are funny and upbeat which I like. These are my favorite:
Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam.
It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand.
Bad news comes, don’t you worry even when it lands.
Good news will work its way to all them plans.
We both got fired on exactly the same day.
Well we’ll float on, good news is on the way.
Its such a great message for a song like looking at even bad things has having an upside eventually. We’ll get through the bad and end up on a good tip.
