Break on Through – The Doors

Whenever I listen to The Doors, I think that Jim Morrison must have loved jazz because there is so much jazz sound in every Doors song.

The drumming at the start of this song definitely sounds like a jazz song and even continues through out the song. That kind of breezey sound. Its interesting because the song seems so intense and packed with emotion but the drums don’t rise that often to the same intensity, its more like they are playing a different song.

The bass also has a jazz sound in parts almost mimicking a stand up bass instead of a bass guitar.

The vocals seem to be where a lot of the intensity of the song come from. Jim Morrison’s voice is so unique, it has a very deep quality but doesn’t have the velvety soothing sound of a lot of deeper voiced singers. He definitely has a more rough cut sound.
