I am bad at analyzing some songs because I like them on an emotional level that I can’t really pinpoint.
This song falls into that category. There is something about Motown songs that reach into me and make me want to dance, spin and clap. They have such life in them. And they have a sense of lightness even this song that is about a guy begging for his girl back. There is a joy in the music that gets inside of you.
Also, I really love the lyrics. They have a humor to them, at least to me. Its hard to hear this and not smile a little:
Now I heard a cryin’ man,
is half a man with no sense of pride
But if I have to cry to keep you,
I don’t mind weepin’ if it’ll keep you by my side
